Traffic Engineering

Traffic Operations' function is to maintain standards for traffic signals, signage, striping, speed limits, road bumps, and parking regulations for the County’s roadways.  To report a traffic operation problem or to request information on traffic signs, including stop signs, road bumps, and traffic signals, please call (831) 454-2160.  To report a traffic operational problem after hours, please call (831) 477-3999.

Transportation Engineering's function is to design improvements for the County's roadways, including traffic signals, roadway safety and capacity improvements, guardrails, bikeways, and other miscellaneous roadway engineering improvements.

Road Planning's function is to plan for future multi-modal roadway improvements as identified in the Santa Cruz County General Plan and regional plans, and conduct long range transportation studies for future roadway improvements.  This section also prepares grant applications for roadway operational and safety improvement projects.

Transportation Development Review's function is to process commercial and residential development projects, coordinate these development reviews through the Engineering Review Group to insure roadside and transportation improvements, and develop and insure the implementation of mitigation requirements for developments.
