The County of Santa Cruz and the cities of Capitola, Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, and Watsonville share responsibility to develop options for garbage disposal, recycling, and organics diversion to reduce waste, reclaim useful materials, and efficiently manage local waste in compliance with State laws. Task Force efforts have resulted in policies to divert waste and recycle materials rather than develop additional local landfill sites. The Task Force and its members continue to study composting, edible food recovery, and emerging waste to energy conversion technologies. This on-going process includes identifying and studying various sites across our county for construction of these facilities. These studies are led by Santa Cruz County Public Works, under direction of the Integrated Waste Management Local Task Force. A copy of the Task Force Bylaws can be found here.
