Geotechnical (Soils) Report Requirements & Guidelines

Geotechnical Reports, also referred to as Soils Reports, are required by County Code and the California Building Code for projects such as, but not limited to: new habitable structures, major additions and remodels, and retaining walls greater than 4 feet in height or supporting a slope. Reports must be completed by an appropriately registered engineer with experience in geotechnical engineering.  In some cases, the requirements for a geotechnical (soils) report may be waived. For sites with signficant geologic hazards, the geotechnical report and design recommendations must consider the findings of the geologic report.
