Questions received after the community meeting

Is there a plan to place sensors (like the ones you had before) to monitor movement of the temporary road at least until Spring 2025?

No, we do not plan to place any new sensors.

Whether it be now or during a storm, are the emergency vehicles going to be using the diverted route to get to houses South of the slide as a default position or will they be given permission (or keys?) to open the gate to use the temporary road in case it is closed. [This would be important to know since those requesting emergency service can mention it to emergency dispatch folks.]

Yes, if the gates are closed, emergency agencies, Calfire, Scotts Valley Fire, Sherrif, etc. will have double locks so they can open the gates at their will.

Temp Road Opening Sept. 28

Published on: September 27, 2024

We are pleased to announce the opening of the temporary road, designed with 24 inches of Class II Base Rock on a reinforced earth foundation. Although it may appear like dirt, the road consists of two feet of compacted base rock, ensuring stability at 95% relative compaction.

For safety, the road is restricted to vehicles weighing 5 tons or less, with a speed limit of 5 mph. Extensive drainage systems have been installed throughout the project, and we will continue to monitor the road for wear. If necessary, we may add a surface layer to further protect the base.

In the coming weeks, gates will be installed for emergency closure if needed.

Our priority was to open this road as soon as possible, and we urge all users to drive slowly and with caution.
