Overview
Assembly Bill 2234 (AB 2234) went into effect January 1, 2024. The bill is another step in the state legislature’s continued efforts to facilitate housing production. One requirement of AB 2234 is to provide permit application lists specifying required application materials as well as examples of at least five types of housing development applications and permits, including accessory dwelling units, duplexes, townhomes, multi-family, and mixed-use developments.
The projects below provide examples of approved permit applications. Santa Cruz County has varied terrain and limited service infrastructure outside of the Urban Services Line; as a result, the requirements for your project may vary. For example, the single-family project shown below is connected to public water. For a project that relies on an individual water system like a well, the requirements will be different. Similarly, a residential unit constructed on flat, stable ground will have different requirements than one constructed on slopes near a fault. If you have questions about the application requirements for your project, please review the Application Requirements for Residential Structures - PLG280 and schedule an appointment with Building staff or other departmental staff using the appointment scheduler.
