Wireless Communication Facilities

Many Wireless Communication Facility (WCF) projects require a discretionary permit. If your project does not have an approved discretionary permit, please refer to Santa Cruz County Code 13.10.661 et seq. for discretionary permit requirements. If you have any questions about permit requirements, email Zoning staff.

Permit Name Wireless Communication Facility
Are Plans Required? Yes, three (3) sets of paper plans are required.
Required Information A completed building application (PLG200), two (2) sets of supplemental documents, including: a radiofrequency (RF) report reflecting the proposed development, applicable discretionary conditions of approval, and any requirements of the discretionary permit. 
Additional Information, as applicable Environmental Health Building Clearance, if the parcel is served by an OWTS (septic system) and the project includes ground disturbance.
How to Submit 

Schedule an in-person appointment with Building staff to submit your complete package for plan check. 

Be prepared to pay application fees, the application will NOT be processed without payment.

Fees

Standard wireless fees are $1,139.77. If the scope calls for Public Works or Environmental Planning reviews due to the project site being in the public right-of-way or a sensitive habitat, the fees can increase to $1,896.38.

IMPORTANT NOTE If the project includes an Eligible Facilities Request (EFR) per Section 6409(a) of the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act, please include a statement detailing the project's eligibility for an EFR. Be advised, WCF applications within sensitive locations per 13.10.661(B)(2) may not be eligible for an EFR.
